“The biggest risk is not taking any risk… – Mark Zuckerberg (CEO of Facebook)”
Facebook’s founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg who is only 30 has been really successful as a businessman and as a leader. He managed to grow facebook from his Harvard dorm room into a billion dollar company that we know today. He is now worth $31 billion that means he earned an average of $3 billion per year in facebook’s 10 years of existence.
Here are 3 life lessons I learned from him
1. Take risks. Everything he has accomplished is the result of the risks that he took. From a college drop-out that hacked and crashed Harvard University server doing crazy stuff to a billionaire CEO of the biggest social networking website, he proved that taking risks is necessary for success.
“The biggest risk is not taking any risk… In a world that is changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks.” – Mark Zuckerberg
2. Be an imperfect action taker. One of my favorite quotes by Zuck is “Done is better than perfect.” It say’s that things don’t have to be perfect, you don’t need to be perfect, or timing don’t have to be perfect to do things that you want to do. Most of the things are left undone not because we are not capable of doing it but because we are trying to make all things perfect before we act.
What I learned is that all successful people are “Imperfect Action Taker”. They start doing things even if they don’t know all the details. They are ready to fail and are willing to make mistakes. The result may not be perfect but they get the job done which is more important. They again take imperfect actions and get things done over and over again. Then eventually they become good at what they do and succeed in it.
3. “We don’t build services to make money; we make money to build better services.” Facebook was founded when Zuck was only 19 and I believe him when he said that he never know anything about business back then. All he did was coded a website where people can connect and communicate with each other.
Now facebook has well over 1.23 billion users world wide. He has a great privilege to serve this great number of people. What I learned about this is that serving more people will definitely leads to greatness, and the money will come as a by-product only. And the purpose of money you earned is for you to build better services that will benefit more people.
These are the 3 most important life lessons that I learned form Zuck. I hope you get value out of it.
