I know you want to achieve success. Well, who doesn’t? I believe nobody would choose failure over success. But unfortunately, failure is the default outcome. If you don’t do anything, you’ll surely end up a failure. It’s so easy to fail while it is so difficult to achieve success.
In my previous post, I shared how to take the right road to success. It is simply about determining your own definition of success first and then making sure that you’re on the right path towards it.
In this post, I want to share 3 things that will help you maximize your potential and achieve your long-term goals. But first, let me share to you why I think this is helpful to many.
I don’t know about you but I’ve never seen a person whose childhood dream was to live a miserable life when he grows up. I have never seen a person who dreams about settling for a stressful and low-paying job in his entire career. I have never seen anybody who dreams about staying in debt for the rest of his life. And I believe nobody dreams about broken relationships and other failures in life.
But guess what? Surprise surprise! Most people get exactly what they don’t want. They don’t dream about failing in life but they also don’t do anything to avoid it. Like I said earlier, failure is the default outcome.
Now, here are the 3 things that will surely help us achieve long-term success:
1. Be willing to disrupt your own comfort.
I’m sure we already read lots of quotes and articles about stepping out of comfort zone. If you are going to achieve long-term success, you already know that you cannot achieve it without going beyond what’s familiar and safe. You have to expand your comfort zone.
One of the most popular quotes I like is, “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” I strongly believe that. I believe that we are here on earth not just to survive and exist, but to grow and live.
Safety and comfort prohibits us from chasing our dreams. We tend to settle for what is familiar and safe rather than to explore the unknown which is full of possibilities.
We surely will experience defeat and failures outside our comfort zone but those experiences will prepare us for long term success. Eventually, the things that scared us before will become part of our extended comfort zone. In that process, you will achieve more than what you previously thought possible.

2. Commit to the life-long process of personal growth and development.
If you want to achieve your goals, you have to get uncomfortable and embrace the lifelong growth and skill development. We must be willing to stretch ourselves and accept new challenges.
Personal development is not a destination but a journey. I must say that I am enjoying the journey right now. For me it means reading more books, attending seminars and conferences, watching educational videos, listening to business podcasts, writing blog posts, going through online courses, meeting with mastermind groups, a lot of discipline and a little bit more of time management.
I like how Todd Henry put it on his book Die Empty, “Growth is painful, messy and very uncomfortable.” I agree! You have to make sacrifices to create progress. But as the quote says, “Growth and change are painful but not as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong.”
Getting stuck is more painful than growth. As the legendary NBA Coach Pat Riley quoted, “If you’re not getting better, you’re getting worse.” This only means that if you’re not learning, you’re expiring. I know you don’t want to expire and become obsolete. You want to achieve your dreams that’s why you will continue to learn and improve.
3. Pursue greatness by serving more people.
Jim Rohn once quoted, “Whoever renders service to many puts himself in line for greatness — great wealth, great return, great satisfaction, great reputation, and great joy.”
If you ever wanted to achieve great wealth, great satisfaction, great reputation and great joy, you have to render service to many people. All companies and individuals that are having success today are those who render great service to the people.
I believe that we all have the capability to become great. We all have unique gifts that we can offer to the world. We just have to develop ourselves and unleash our full potential. The more we develop ourselves the more service we can offer and the more we get in return. Read also, How to Inspire More People and Really Make A Difference.
Remember, you must be willing to disrupt your own comfort, you have to commit to continuous personal development and you must pursue greatness by serving more people to achieve long-term success.
You can’t afford to chase safety and comfort, because if you do, you will have to settle for the scraps and leftovers. You must own your growth and take responsibility for your own progress. You cannot pursue greatness and comfort at the same time.
